Fernando Canales
CAMP DIRECTOR - COLGATE UNIVERSITY
2011 will be Fernando's first year with TPSC, serving as the Camp Director for the Colgate University location. Fernando is in his first year as the Head Coach of the Men's & Women's Swimming & Diving program at Colgate, but comes with much experience.
Canales served two stints as an assistant coach at the University of Michigan from 1982-87 and from 2006-08, working with John Urbanchek and Bob Bowman, who both have coached at the Olympics.
Between these tenures, Canales managed elite USA swimming clubs in Texas where he helped to produce State High School Champions, 10 Olympic qualifiers and one U.S. National Team member.
As an athlete Canales was a four-year All-American at Michigan where he won 12 Big Ten titles, including the 100-yard freestyle four times. He has also represented Puerto Rico on three Olympic Teams (1976, '80, '84) and was inducted into the Puerto Rican National Sports Hall of Fame.
